The competent entities in the Kingdom started building a railway connecting phosphate mining regions, south of the Kingdom, to Aqaba port. Work started in enforcing a part of Hijaz railway from Al Hassa mines to Batn Al Ghool station and constructing a new railway from Batn Al Ghool to Aqaba port on November 1972. The management of this line was relegated to an independent institution called (Aqaba Railway Corporation). In the year 1982, Al Wadi Al A'byad phosphate mines were connected by the railway at Al Hassa branching section with a length of (22 km). Thus, the line total length is (292 km). There is an intention to make the railway line reach the phosphate mine in Al-Sheediya and the industrial compound Valley 2 region in Aqaba.    
 

 

  The Most Important Achievements in the Year 2010


-The corporation transported (2,126,502) tons of phosphate in the year 2010. This represents 104.2% of the prescribed plan as it was supposed to transport (2, 04) million tons. Revenues reached (13,511,123) million dinars. This quality shift in the transport process was the outcome of the administrative distinguished thinking and the excellence of the workers   themselves for accomplishing this ratio.

  
-The operating trains of the corporation were able to transport this quantity from the three mines of the Phosphate Company (Al-Abyad, Al Hassa and Al -Sheediyah) at a rate of five trains a day, especially Al-Shadiah which had the greatest share from phosphate transport mobility.

   

- Repairing tractor no.701 after being exposed to an overturn accident. This tractor had modern technology and computerized control. It was introduced to service in the corporation in the year 2007. Repair was conducted in Aqaba workshops by the workshops technicians without the need of assistance by the experiences of the manufacturing company or any external experiences. 

 

 -The tractor repair process was accomplished by setting a complete program for maintaining the mechanical and electrical parts and the tractor computerized programming within the high operating data.    

 

- The cost of the tractor maintenance was (130,597) Jordanian dinars. This saved (896,613) Jordanian dinars if the tractor were sent to the manufacturing company for repair. The manufacturing company estimated that the cost of repair will be (476,410) Jordanian dinars if the tractor were repaired in Brazil plus the freight cost from Jordan to Brazil and back, estimated as (550,800) Jordanian dinars. Therefore, the repair total cost will be (1,027,210) Jordanian dinara. The directives and support of his Excellency, the General Manager, had the greatest effect for achieving this mission successfully.    


- Among the aims, which the corporation seeks to achieve for executing the transport plan signed with the Jordanian Phosphate Mines company at a minimum time and cost, the corporation worked on raising the competency of the railway lines infrastructure. Seventeen Kilometers of the Southern line were cleared from the accumulated sand and dirt, replacing (3500) beams and (700) rails plus promoting the readiness of the mobile equipment in the corporation during periodic repair and maintenance for (58) vehicle plus monthly, quarterly semi-annually, annually and every two years for the tractors with a total of (138) tractors.

 

- For the purposes of working on the trains and vehicle control and limiting overlapping, a complete tracking system was installed. Their tracking is accomplished, by a special program by the corporation administration, on a daily basis.   

 

-The 36th periodic meeting of the railway Arab Union Administration council was held where the affairs of the Union and the proposed work program for the incoming year. By the end of this meeting, the Jordanian State represented in Aqaba Railway Corporation, for its presidency period where the periodic presidency of the Union was handed to Syria.  Under the care of his Excellency, the Minister of Transport, Aqaba Railway Corporation held, in Amman the capital of Jordan, a seminar titled '' The Railway Infrastructure Maintenance" in cooperation with the Middle East Railway Union (UIC) in the presence of Arab and friend countries' delegates. Several lectures were delivered addressing the subject of Assets Administration, the maintenance of railway, bridge, automotives used in the process maintenance, methods and operation of welding iron bars and treating the problems that occur in railway lines
