Amman – Zarqa Light Rail Project
Description of the Proposed Railway network
The proposed railway network would comprise a “core” standard-gauge network consisting of:

North - South Railway (NSR)
-
East - West Railway (EWR) including the connection to Saudi Arabia
-
This “core railway” might be supplemented by other rail lines, the operation of which would be quite independent from the core railway, or at best would have a limited impact on railway activity on the core network.

The tender of project implementation by BOT was offered for the preparation of the preliminary design and environmental impact studies and geotechnical studies.

The documents were sent, with a request for proposals “RFP”, to seven consultancy companies to provide their offers for transaction advisor services, and the Ministerial Steering Committee decided to award Dar Al-Handasa Consultants its approval for the preparation of engineering designs and preliminary environmental impact study. An agreement was signed with Company which began work on 15 / 12/2008.

Project Description
The project consists of three stages:

Stage 1: New Zarqa – Amman line:The line will start at new Zarqa near the oil refinery and follows the corridor of the Hejaz Railway to Amman station and continue to Raghadan area through Amman Municipality streets.

Stage 2: Raghadan (CBD) to new city hall

Stage 3: Raghadan (CBD) to Swaileh through Abdali and Jordan University.
