 Jordan Maritime Authority was established under the Jordanian Maritime Act no. (47) For the year 2002 (interim law) where he permanent law no. (46) for the year 2006, was issued. 

 

 Objectives


-Regulate, monitor and develop the maritime sector in the Kingdom.


-Enhance the private sector's role and encourage competition, investment and monopoly prevention in the maritime transport sector in the Kingdom. 


-Promoting safety levels, maritime security and contributing in the maritime environment protection on the Jordanian vessels and the Jordanian regional waters.

 

 

  Main Mission   


-Granting work-practice licenses in all the sector activities and the cooperation with the competent entities by observing the rulings of the applicable Aqaba special Economic Zone.

  
-The registration of the vessels under the Jordanian flag.

  
-Issuing legal certificates for the Jordanian vessels.


-Issuing official documents for the sector workers including local certificates.   


-Conducting the actions of maritime equipment within the Jordanian regional waters under national legislations and the related international conventions.


-Controlling the actions of guidance, maritime towing and coastal navigation within Jordan regional waters.   


-Following up the search actions and maritime rescue within and outside Jordan regional waters.


-Accidents' and maritime disasters' investigations within Jordan regional waters and on the Jordan vessels, wherever they exist.   ·         Submitting recommendations to the Ministry concerning dual, regional and international agreements plus following up their execution.   


-Representing the Kingdom in the regional and international corporations, organizations, councils, and commissions plus following up their activities.

  
-Cooperation and coordination with local, regional and international entities that have to do with the authority.


 
 

  The Most Important Achievements in the Year 2010:

-Following up providing the required equipment for the coastal stations operation and conducting wireless communication with the vessels.

-Following up the modifications on the Maritime Authority Act to insure the execution of all requirements.

-Taking the required action for providing the requirements of the law enforcement by issuing the required regulation and directives.

-382 vessels Inspecting foreign vessels by applying the state control system on the port under the international requirements of maritime safety, security and preserving environment.

-7 Investigating maritime accidents. It is noted that maritime accidents, in 2010, decreased as a result of the continued vessels and boats follow up.

-Following up the application of long-range and tracking system for boosting the procedures of maritime safety and security on the vessels that raise the Jordanian flag.

-Following up the application of the contingency plan in cooperation with the competent bodies.

-Preparing the vessel's entry and exit regulations from and to the regional waters of Jordan in cooperation with the competent bodies.

-Following up the requirements of licensing the institutions of education and maritime training.

-Accession to Anti-Fouling Convention, Bunker Convention, Djhbouti Code of Conduct to combat Piracy and the 1978 Protocol to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea in 1974.   

-Coordination continuity with the Ministry of Transport in the field of following up the projects of the European Union, the International Maritime Organization and the Arab League.

-Following up , revising and checking laws, regulations and directives issued by the Jordanian Maritime Authority and writing remarks and proposals for developing and updating these regulations and directives for achieving the best measures and levels in the performance and service rendered by this Authority, following up the modifications on the Jordanian Maritime Authority law, the system of fees, proceeds and wages issued by the Maritime Authority to be published on the website of the Jordanian Maritime Authority.    

-Following up the implementation of the Transport Sector National Strategy   for the year (2009-2011) and work plan for the year 2010.

-Coordination with the International Maritime Organization on the project of erecting reception facilities for vessels waste oils for joining Marpol Convention and participation in Maritime Pollution Accidents Control and the Commission of pollution damage estimation in cooperation with Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority.   

-Following up the Authority projects with the Ministry of Transport and the Minister of Planning  and International Cooperation concerning proposed projects by the Maritime Authority and providing the Ministry of Planning therewith, including the future expectations and plans for Maritime Transport Sector, rendering proposals and remarks on meetings minutes of the Jordanian higher commissions with Arab and foreign countries.
